Robert was born in Dixfield on June 5, 1927, the son of D. L. and Sibyl (Frost) McPherson.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army. He was employed with the railroad for 33 years, where he retired.
Robert was a fan of NASCAR and loved to watch the races. He enjoyed working in the woods and working in the garden. He also enjoyed raising his Herefords.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, John McPherson.
Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lucille McPherson; sons, Steven McPherson and his wife, Sharon, and Conrad McPherson and his wife, Terry, all of Vassalboro; grandchildren, Melissa White and her husband, Arthur, of China, Nicholas McPherson and his wife, Natasha, of China, and James Markes and his wife, Brittnay, of California; great-grandchildren, Brea, Wyatt, and Lucille White and Christian, Megan, and Liam McPherson; sisters, Mary Walker and her partner, Bob Tweedie, of Pittsfield, Faye Bickford of Clinton, and Donna Mills and her husband, Ted, of Massachusetts; a brother, Gordon Drake and his wife, Lisa, of New York; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. April 24 at China Extension Cemetery in China.
