Mr. Willis L. Austin
BUCKFIELD - Willis L. Austin, 81, of Buckfield died May 21, 2009.
He was born in Turner on February 16, 1928, the son of Forest and Grace (Record) Austin and was educated in local schools. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and had served in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe until he returned home in October of 1947.
Upon returning home he had worked for Auburn Motor Sales for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He had owned his own business, Will's Garage in Buckfield Village, for seven years and he has worked for SAD #39 for 18 years as custodian and bus driver retiring for the second time in 2008.
He married Eleanor Colby Bessey on June 6, 1952.
Mr. Austin was a founding father and former president of the Streaked Mountaineers Snowmobile Club. He was a member of the John D. Long American Legion Post #58 of Buckfield and was an active member of the Buckfield Community Church, serving as a trustee up until his death.
He loved camping and campfires, snowmobile riding and mowing lawns, having mowed many years at Hebron Pines Campground. He took great pride in keeping his yard neat and tidy. He loved going to the grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events and watching them play games and liked going on trips with friends and family. He and his wife were foster parents for 27 years.
Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, Eleanor Austin of Buckfield; one son, Bradley Austin of Sommerville; three daughters, Brenda Estes and her husband Wayne of Sumner, Sheila Kyllonen and her husband Gary of Hebron and Joanie Austin of Buckfield; one daughter-in-law, Linda Collinson of Winslow; two brothers, Ivan Austin and his wife Sally of East Livermore and George Austin and his wife Leota of Turner; two sisters, Edith Austin of Turner and Eva Dunigan and her husband Dale of AK;; three sisters-in-law, Mary Austin of Turner, Norma Colby of Buckfield and Doris Austin of Turner; one brother in-law, Morris Tucker of Buckfield; grandchildren, David and Michelle, Andrea, Tammy and John, Dara and Dave, Rebecca, Scott and Jamie, Ryan and Adam, Elizabeth and Corey; great-grandchildren, Kaila, Samantha, Caleb, Konnor, Karsyn, Parker, Nicholas, Olivia, Grace, Kohvyn, Shaun and Amy; great-great-granddaughter, Kendyll and soon-to-be-born great-grandson, Traydyn.
He is also survived by many foster children, with special feelings for Tom Coore and his wife Sheri of South Paris, Debbie and Paul Maberry of South Paris and Julie Rice of Oxford; foster grandchildren, Tyanna, Lacey, T.J. and Jeremy and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Gerald Austin and Clarence Austin; one sister, Charlotte Roak; one brother-in-law, Earle Colby and two sisters-in-law, Betty Tucker and Carlene Colby.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at Buckfield High School with Rev. Eva Thompson officiating. Private burial will be held for the family at the Damon Cemetery.
