Melvin B. Agen, 94, Barron, Wis., died Sunday July 11, 2004, at Dallas Healthcare Center.
He was born March 4, 1910, in rural Cumberland to John and Johanna (Einerson) Agen. Depression years found him at various locations and occupations, some in Milwaukee and also in the north woods.
He married Marion Ruth Elmer on April 3, 1934, at Monticello. After farming in Green County for ten years, they returned to Barron County, where they farmed until 1972. After retiring to Barron, he taught himself how to make furniture - mostly tables, many for his grandchildren. He loved hunting and working in the woods. He was an avid supporter of soil conservation.
Surviving are sons, Nelson (Julie) of Seymour and Melvin (Tricia) of Hastings, Minn.; daughters, Marjorie (Harold) Lindemann of Cumberland and Nancy Whitmore of Rosemount, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on April 6, 2000; and brothers, Arnie and Hjelmer.
Services held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, from First Lutheran Church, Barron, Rev. Bruce Beyer officiating, with burial at Wayside Cemetery, Barron.
