Doug was born July 7, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Iver and Gena (Hugdahl) Thompson. The family moved back to Wisconsin in the early 1930s where Doug attended Clover Leaf Country school just over the hill from the family farm. Doug spent his freshman year in high school in North Dakota working on his uncle, Oscar's farm and his remaining years of high school in Glenwood City working on his uncle, Roy's family farm. Doug graduated from Glenwood City High School, the class of 1944. After high school, Doug continued farming until he joined the Navy in January of 1946. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Doug did some traveling and helped with the wheat harvest in Kansas with his cousin, Alden. He then furthered his education by learning the trade of refrigeration repair at DunWoody Institute. In 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Laura Bleed. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Susan, Greg and Robert. In 1953, Doug and his family moved to Baldwin where he established Thompson Refrigeration; a business which served the community for 50 years. Doug was a hard worker who took pride in his community and service to others. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church counsel, served as post commander for the Baldwin American Legion - Post 240 for many years and was actively involved with the county wide Badger Boys State participation. His dedicated service to his community will be fondly remembered.
