SHULLSBURG, Wis. -- Lorraine E. "Lorrie" Aurit, 89, of Shullsburg, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, Darlington.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 344 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg, with the Rev. John Bosco Pudhota officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, rural Shullsburg. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home, 235 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg, where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Friday.
Lorraine was born on Oct. 16, 1922, in Wisconsin, daughter of Daniel and Mary (O'Brien) Keyes. She lived in the Shullsburg area all of her life, graduating from Shullsburg High School in 1940.
She married Paul Aurit on Oct. 16, 1943, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Shullsburg; he preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1999.
Lorraine farmed with her husband in the Shullsburg area and worked as a caregiver at the Shullsburg Home for 23 years.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, its Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters, Legion of Mary and St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Lorraine was an avid crossword puzzle solver, and euchre and solitaire player. She enjoyed listening to music, baking, and remaining active in current events. She was quite a historian. Lorraine's family will always remember her for living her faith and the unconditional love and compassion she had for everyone.
Surviving are her children, Jan (Bill) Guymon, of Roscoe, Ill., John Aurit, of Marseilles, Ill., Kathleen (Rick) Modica, of Pearl City, Ill., Mary Beth (Dean) Hendrickson, of Rockford, Ill., Sue (Ron) Wiegel, of Shullsburg, JoAnn (Stan) Sherman, of Springfield, Ill., Theresa (Jim) DiTulio, of Macomb, Ill., Angie (Jonathan) Alexander, of Eau Claire, and Sandy Aurit, of Galena, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Amy Speth, of Hazel Green; a brother, John R. "Bud" Keyes, of Monona; and three sisters, Lois Goc, of Omaha, Neb., Mary Keyes, of Watertown, and Anna Vosberg, of Platteville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Mike Kaiser in 1988; and four brothers, Joe, Gene "Killer," Daniel and Francis "Art" Keyes.
