Rita A. Brown, age 87, of Stanley, passed away on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at the Country Terrace Home in Stanley. Rita was born Oct. 9, 1923 in Thorp, the daughter of the late Warren and Euphemia (Smart) Baker. Rita grew up in the Stanley area and graduated from Stanley High School.

On Oct. 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Richard Brown at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stanley. The couple then resided in the Stanley area raising their family. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and in her spare time enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren. She was famous for making her home made breads, a talent she had since childhood.

Rita is survived by: her sons, James (Shirley) Brown and Wayne Brown, both of Stanley; daughters, Bonnie Rusfeldt of Eau Claire; Joanne (George) Wellner of Boyd; Evelyn (Andy) Grengs and Brenda (Chris) Kowalczyk, both of Chippewa Falls; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret "Mugs" (Rueben) Schmidt of Phillips and Imogene Oberle of Gilman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 2003; one son, Larry Brown; two grandsons, Kristopher Brown and Jason Rusfeldt; three brothers, Edward "Pat", Richard "Ole" and Paul Baker; and two sisters, Agnes Rademaker and Genevieve Wry.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, with Fr. Corradi officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and family may call on Monday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the Plombon Funeral Chapel, Stanley, with a 7 p.m. rosary reciting.
