He was born Sept. 21, 1942, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Ernest and Ruby (Dickinson) Austad-Guth. Ed graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1961. He was employed at Palmer Johnson Yacht Building for 43 years, retiring as purchaser in 2008. On Aug. 5, 1967, he married Donna Lynn Tess at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 1998.
Ed was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He loved traveling and adventure, most recently traveling to New Mexico for Hot Air Ballooning with his cohorts, Linda (Larry) Stuth. They were known as the Three Musketeers. Ed was a member of the Door Devils Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gambling, playing cards, and especially watching football games with his grandson, Dylan. He was an avid storyteller, gifted with quick wit and a great sense of humor. His wish to all of us would be to"keep smiling". Some of his nicknames were Frosty, Agitator, Nickels (on his license plate), and Avon Eddy because he always smelled so good.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kim (her dear friend, Chris Alcala) Austad, Chicago; Stacy (Chris) Erickson, Sturgeon Bay; one grandson, Dylan Austad, Sturgeon Bay; three sisters, Joan (Donald) Harding, Sturgeon Bay; Jane (Greg) Lambiotte, Green Bay; Linda (Larry) Stuth, Sturgeon Bay; stepbrother, Bill (Laurie) Guth, Milwaukee; stepsister, Debbie (Jeff) Gorham, Mora, Minn.; and dear nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Donna (1998); sister, Peggy Kasten (2011) and stepsister, Cheri DeGroot (2011).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon (January 30, 2012) at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Konkol as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
