James W. Abrahamson, 83 years of Valmy, died Friday morning (December 7, 2012) at his home with family at his side following a battle with cancer.
He was born May 20, 1929 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Walter Herman and Muriel (Potier) Abrahamson. After graduating from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1948, Jim served his country with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. He was present at the invasion of South Korea, and the recapture of Seoul to the 38th parallel. Jim had fought at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir and was one of five in his battalion who survived that historic battle. He was a member of the Chosen Few (a combat marine organization). On April 24, 1954 Jim married Helen M. Hanson at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Baileys Harbor.

He was employed at Felhofer Brothers in Valmy until 1969. Jim then went into partnership with LeRoy Ehlers in the same building Felhofer's had been in. In 1979 he operated his own auto body repair business in Valmy until he retired in 2007.

Jim will be deeply missed his wife, Helen; four children, James, Micheal (Jody), (and their children, Rachel and Krista), daughter, Julie (Dan) Vandertie, (and their children, Karlee, Bridget and Austin), son, Steven (Brenda), (and their children, Nathan, Hannah and Isaac); three brothers, Lawrence (Margaret), Wallace (Dorothy), Thomas (Lois); sister, Theresa (Howard) Phillips; in-laws, Jean Widder, Eben (June) Hanson, Robert (Florence) Hanson, Don (Judy) Hanson, William (Virginia) Hanson, Florence (Don) Melchoir, Agnes Hanson, Joe Nelson; and many other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Joyce; sister-in-law, Gertrude Abrahamson; nephews, Gary Abrahamson, James Hanson Jr., Timothy Nelson, Eben "Butch" Hanson III; sisters-in-law, Rosie Hanson, Carol Nelson, Margaret Kuehn; brothers-in-law, Rapheal Zak, Carlton Kuehn, Ruben Widder, Lawrence and James Hanson; and parents-in-law, Eben and Loretta Hanson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday (December 10, 2012) at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Rev. Robert Konkol OFM officiating. Military Honors will follow at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
