Markie Ann Frederica Berkebill, age 15, of the Town of Pine Lake, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital following an automobile accident.

She was born on October 4, 1990, in Neenah, WI to Mark and Marilyn (Whittaker) Berkebill. Markie Ann had just completed her freshman year at Rhinelander High School and was an honor student throughout her nine years of education. She was employed at her family's resort on Moen Lake in which she took great pride and looked forward to operating one day. Markie was blooming into a confident, intelligent, and beautiful young woman who cared for her family and friends and could brighten a dark day with her smile. She will be remembered for the wisdom and strength she demonstrated when faced with health issues and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In the short time she was here, she touched many hearts.

Markie is survived by and will be sorely missed by her parents, Mark and Marilyn; her sister, Maggie; grandmother, Carol Berkebill; aunts and uncles, Susan (Mark) Grunwald, Laura Schommer, David (Jan) Berkebill, John (Carol Joy) Berkebill, and Matthew (Janet) Berkebill; and many cousins and friends. She also leaves her beloved cat, "Tweety".

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Magdala "Dixie" Whittaker and Stanford W. Whittaker Jr.; paternal grandfather, Frederick Berkebill; and uncles Scott and Ricky Whittaker and Ron Berkebill.

Funeral services for Markie Ann will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Carlson Funeral Home with Chaplain John Uhlarik officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday. Interment will be in Northland Memorial Park. A memorial will be established in Markie's honor and contributions may directed to her family.
