David Herbert Ashton, Sr., age 68, of Bellingham, died Friday, March 30, 2007 at his home. He was born November 22, 1938 in Detroit, MI to Joseph Herbert and Elva Mae (Gillespie) Ashton.
David served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1961 and on Dec 30, 1967 he married Helen Harris in Matamoris, Mexico. They moved to Whatcom County in October 1971, where David was employed as Operations Manager with The Lighthouse Mission for 22 years until his retirement in 2003. He was active in Christian Broadcasting and volunteered on many Lighthouse Mission boards and the Child Evangelism Fellowship board. David also served on many local boards as a mental health advocate.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Helen; children James, Brett, David, Florence, Sarah, John, Mary, Joel, Joshua and Caroline; nine grandchildren; sister Carol Hardin of Houston, TX and a brother, Richard Ashton of Georgia.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 6, 1 pm at Laurel Community Baptist Church, Bellingham with viewing prior to the service from 12 noon to 1 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Ten Mile Cemetery.
