Donald Aebersold was born June 30, 1932, and passed away at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1948, at the age of 16 years, 3 months and 24 days. He was born the second child of William and Regina Aebersold, at their farm home in the town of Mentor (Clark Co., Wis.), near the village of Humbird. Here he lived throughout his lifetime.

He was graduated from the eighth grade of the local school in 1946, and entered the high school the next fall. In September of this year he entered his junior year. He has been interested in high school athletics, and was a member of the basketball and baseball teams.

On Palm Sunday, 1947, he was baptized into the Christian faith, and confirmed as a member of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. He has taken an active part in the work of the church since that time, and was a lso a member of the Youth Fellowship.

Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23rd, Donald was fatally injured in a hunting accident. He was taken to the Krohn Hospital in Black River Falls, where he passed away early the next morning.

He leaves to mourn his death, his parents, one sister, Jeanette, his grandmother, Mrs. Aebersold, a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives, together with his many friends and schoolmates.

Many sympathizing friends attended the funeral services at St. John’s Church Tuesday afternoon. Pastor Hohmann’s sermon subject for this sorrowful time was, "For Words for this Hour" - the promise of Jesus, the comfort of God, the lessons of the tragedy, and the transcendent wisdom of God. Mrs. Waters and Mrs. Smith sang, with Mrs. Hohmann accompanist, "Take Thou My Hand," "Near the Cross," and "He Leadeth Me." Pallbearers were Earl Smith, Robert Kutchera, Louis Greub, Bennie Larson, Herbert Hahn, Norman Mayer. Many beautiful flowers expressed the sympathy of the community to the family in their sorrow. School was closed, that his classmates could attend the services, and also many business places were close. Burial was in Mentor Cemetery.
