SALEM - Baker, Opal M., 100, of Salem, formerly of Borden, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Baker was born April 15, 1912 in Clark County, IN, the daughter of Walter H. and Carrie Myrtle Sears Brown. Opal graduated from Hanover College and obtained her lifetime teaching license. She spent most of her career teaching for schools in Clark County. She retired from Borden Elementary School. She was a member of Borden Church of Christ, Borden Historical Society, and Indiana Retired Teacher's Association.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Baker on June 20, 1996; a son, Gary Bryce Baker; a brother, Willis Brown and her parents.

She is survived by a daughter, Rita Turpen of Salem; two grandchildren, Eric Wayne Turpen and Tricia Elaine Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Kylie and Sidney Brown and Annisa and Ian Turpen; as well as a double cousin, Helen Ratts; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Weathers Funeral Home with Scott Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Borden. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. until time of service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Borden Church of Christ, Borden, IN.
