George T Acheson, 83, of Lafayette, died at 12:27 am Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Home Hospital. born July 2, 1922 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Floyd S Acheson and Gladys M Maitlen Acheson. He was a 1940 graduate of West Lafayette High School. He served in the marine corps during World War II and was involved in the initial landing at Guadalcanal. His marriage was to Adeline V Parvis on December 8, 1942, in Clarks Hill and she survives. Mr Acheson was a former inspector for the Lafayette Housing Authority, retiring in 1996. He also was a former sales associate for Loeb's and Montgomery Ward in Lafayette. He was a member of the Navy Club USA, where he served as former national commandant. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 11, 40&8 Voiture and the David M Shoup Detachment Marine Corps League. Mr Acheson enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Tom Acheson (wife: Jessica) of Lafayette; and two daughters, The Rev Judy May of Warren, Michigan, and Mary Dietrich (husband; Steve) of West Lafayette. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Matthew May, Sarah May, Dean Acheson, Christine Acheson, Trevor Acheson, Natalie Dietrich Lovett and Kyle Dietrich; 4 step-grandchildren, Sarah, Katie, Daniel and David Green; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia May. Preceded in death by 2 brothers Claude and Gerald. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions to charity of choice.
