. Jerome J., at the age of seventeen, in 1861, enlisted in the war for the Union, and served his country faithfully and well. While participating in the battle of the Wilderness, May 6, 1864, he was struck in the forehead by a minnie ball; and, when his comrades were taking him from the field, his last words were, "Let me die on the battle-field."
