Drunken Driver Blamed For Death of Five

Crash Kills Four In One Family

A racing automobile, traveling at an estimated speed of 80 miles an hour and driven by an allegedly drunken driver, Claude Edward Selvey, 27, who also was killed in the accident, crashed head-on into a Henry county car on Ind. 67, two miles southwest of Albany, Delaware county Sunday morning, killing a Henry county father, mother and two of their three children. The surviving child, Helen Carol Acker, 6, is in critical condition in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
The Henry county people who were killed were: Charles R. Acker Jr., 29, master mechanic at the Pierce Governor factory in Anderson, residing three miles northwest of New Castle; his wife, Helen Lucille Acker, 29; and their children: Charles Edward Acker, 7 and Constance Ann Acker, 4.
Funeral services for the Ackers will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Christian Church. Rev. R. Melvyn Thompson will conduct rites and burial will be in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at the Main and Sons Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Tuesday and at the church between 1 and 2 p.m. Wednesday preceding the services.
Mr. and Mrs. Acker had spent Saturday night at the home of Ed Hodshire and family at Albany. Because he had to go to work at the Anderson factory Sunday morning, the family left early for the return trip to their home.

Mr. Acker was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Acker, 903 Lincoln Ave. The family were all member of the Christian Church.
