A birthday wish, made a month ago Wednesday, came true at 5:10 a.m. Thursday when eight year old Jimmie Joe Appleton of Rt 2 Logansport died.
The little son of Joe and Shelby Appleton had no morbid feeling about death. He knew he had been sick all of his life and was quoted in a birthday story about him this year, often told his parents, "What I most want to do is to go to Heaven, see Jesus, the pearly gates and the angels."
The boy was born at Memorial Hospital on Nov.2 1956 underwent surgery nine days afterwards. His short-spanned life was marked by operations and medications. He accepted it well but was growing steadily weaker. In the past few months his condition had become quite serious. He was taken to the hospital again Wednesday.
Survivors are the parents: a sister Carol Lynn at home;grandparents, Mr and Mrs Jay Appleton of Rt 2 Camden; his maternal grandmother Mrs Ada Fincher of Rockfield; several aunts and uncles.
Friends may call at McCloskey-Hamilton-Kahle Funeral Home. Funeral sevices will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clymers Methodist Church. The Rev Thomas Webb will officiate assisted by the Rev Lawrence Tedrow. Burial will be the St Johns Cemetery.
The Appleton family reported that the account of his approaching birthday brought a wave of gifts from firms in Logansport, individuals throughout several counties, churches and scout groups.
To those groups, who sought no publicity, asked no credit, the parents wanted them to know they made Jimmie Joe's last birthday his happiest one.
