Byrl Payton Adkisson Sr., 75, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville.Born April 3, 1926, in Petros, he was the son of Charlie Adkisson and Dosie Dallas Barger Taylor, now both deceased.Mr. Adkisson was served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.He had worked at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant and retired July 6, 1989, from Martin Marietta Energy Systems. He attended Calvary Baptist Church.
His family said he enjoyed turkey shoots and flea markets.He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Duncan Adkisson, who died April 29, 1975.Mr. Adkisson is survived by four sons, Byrl Adkisson Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Oak Ridge, Gordon Adkisson and his wife, Terri, and Bryan Adkisson and his wife, Deborah, all of Knoxville, and Russell Adkisson and his wife, Laura, of Culver City, Calif.; a daughter, Sheryl Tindell and her husband, Johnny, of Andersonville; a brother, Leon Bray and his wife, Bobbie, of Clinton; and a niece, Stacey Hughes of Clinton.
He is also survived by cousins he considered special, Bill and Eva Henry of Knoxville; and an aunt, Peg Comer and her husband, Paul, of Petros; seven grandchildren, Bruce and Angie Adkisson, and Katie Adkisson and Daniel Adkisson, all of Knoxville, Adam and Gwen Adkisson of McDonough, Ga., Suzanne and James Kline of Harriman, and Amy Byrge and Logan Tindall and his wife, Tyshia, all of Clinton; and by eight great-grandchildren.The funeral will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Bruce Robinson officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6014, Oak Ridge, TN 3783; or to the charity of the donor's choice.The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary
