In 1834 Truman came with his parents, Uriel T. & Huldah (Gibbs) Barnes to Michigan, first in Albion, Calhoun Co. and in January 1838 to Lawrence, Van Buren Co., Michigan. After his marriage to Catharine they moved to Lacota. For a time Truman and his family moved to Nebraska and took a homestead near Lincoln. At the death of Catharine he returned to his farm in Lacota where he remained.
He married as his first wife, Catharine Hall on October 14, 1851 in Van Buren Co., Michigan. His second marriage on October 30, 1877 was to Lydia S. Newton.
