Birth: Jan. 15, 1865

Steuben County
Indiana, USA
Death: Apr. 21, 1938
Indiana, USA

Mrs. E. J. Baker Mary Elizabeth Ireland, daughter of Mary Ann and George Ireland was born near Angola, Ind., January 15, 1865, and was called to her heavenly home Thursday morning, April 21, 1938, at the age of seventy-three years, three months, and six days.

She was the eldest of a family of four children. One sister, Mrs. Evalenah Roberts, and two brothers, Frederick and Franklin Ireland, preceded her in death.

On October 5, 1898, she was united in marriage with Edward J. Baker. For several years following their marriage they lived in Kenesaw, Neb. Returning to Steuben county the remainder of her life was spent a few miles from the place of her birth.

When a young woman she accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of the Christian church. Her character was woven of the strongest moral fiber, inspired by the deep convictions and high ideals of her Christian faith. Her entire life was one of service for her Master - she gave freely of her time, strength and talent to all church and Sunday school activities.

When a young woman she served as a teacher and superintendent of the Sunday school at District No. 9. After her marriage she was a regular attendant of the Christian church of Flint, Ind., until services were discontinued there. For many years she had taken an active interest in the Methodist church and Sunday school at Flint, where her kind and friendly presence will be missed.

She was devoted to her home and family. Her step-children she loved as her own, giving them, from their early childhood a mother's loving care and devotion.

She leaves to mourn her going her husband, two step-children, Clarence Baker of near Angola, and Ona Gilbert of Sturgis, Mich.; three grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will miss the unfailing cheer of her word and smile---and cherish the memory of a beautiful life.

Services were held in the Klink Funeral Home Sunday, Apri 24, 1938, Rev. John Humfreys officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
