|Death: ||Dec. 23, 1898|
John C. CAMPBELL was born about 1815-17 probably in Pennsylvania. John married Elizabeth Rosa (Stantley) about 1839 in PA. About 1841-42, they may have lived in Clarion Co., PA before moving to Jefferson co., PA.
In the 1850 census John, age 33 and his wife Eliza, age 25, lived in Ringgold twp., Jefferson Co., PA with six children. At the time John's occupation was listed as a shoemaker. Two houses down was B. R. Campbell, age 44 and wife Sarah, age 42 with four children. I think B.R. Campbell is John's brother. Also a possible brother, Elijah Campbell, age 34, living in Ringgold twp. with his family in 1850.
In later census reports John C. Campbell's occupation was listed as a carpenter.
About 1850, John and Elizabeth moved to Crawford Co., Ohio. They had ten children:
Almira M. (Campbell) Franz, Obadiah Alexander Campbell, (Obadiah was a soldier in the Civil War, 26th Regt., Co.E, OH) William Henry, James M., John F., Minnie Deborah (Campbell) Sherman, Charles H., Ellen Elizabeth (Campbell) Neussle and Judson Westley Campbell.
John C. CAMPBELL enlisted in the Civil War, 65th Regt., Co.D, Ohio. He became ill and was put in the hospital. He was then listed as AWOL.
John moved to Steuben Co., Indiana and married Ann M. BERRIMAN on 6 NOV 1870. His children with Ann were Charles born about 1870, Goldie born about 1872, Luella born about 1876 and Lillie V. born about 1879.
John died 23 DEC 1898 in Steuben Co., Indiana at age 81. He is buried in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetary. His first wife, Elizabeth died 17 APRIL 1907 in Crawford Co., OH at age 86.
