CARTER, Gincy -- died Monday, July 14, at Bulter's Switch, Mrs. Gincy Carter, in the 96th year of her age. She was one of the pioneers of Indiana, coming to Clark County in 1812, with her husband. They resided there for some time and also in Scott County and at Seymour and Chestnut Ridge. She was born in Virginia in 1788. Her husband died about 25 years ago. Six children survive her, one of whom, Peter L Carter, is an old residence of Seymour. Funeral at Chestmut Ridge, today, (Tuesday, July 15-D). Gincy Carter was born in Stafford County, Virginia, October 14, 1788 and was married to John Carter in Virginia, on November 8, 1808. They came to Indiana Territory in 1812, traveling all the way in a wagon. They settled 1st in Silver Creek,. in Clark's Grant, now Clark County. In 1816 they moved to Jennings Colunty and lived there for one year. In the early part of 1817, they came to Jackson County and settled in Grassy Fork Township. They continuned their residence in Jackson County until April 23, 1859, when Mr. Carter died. They had lived together for 50 years, 5 months and 15 days. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Carter remained at their last home on Chestnut Ridge, Jackson County, until the fall of of 1866, when she went to live with Harden H. Carter and moved with him to Jennings County on December 15, 1875, where she made her home until her death. She had been a member of the Baptist Church for 65 years, and was baptized in Coffee Creek (Baptist Church) in Jennings County by Thomas Hill, Sr. Her only living daughter, Elizabeth Keller, was also with her during her last days. Mrs. Carter's remains were buried on Chestnut Ridge, beside her husband, on July 15, 1884.
