Another Pioneer Gone
Alfred Carmack was born January 8, 1814, in Hawkins County, TN, and came to this county with his parents in 1834, where he has ever since resided until the time of death which occurred Sabbath evening, May 18, 1879, at his home in the Lebanon neighborhood. He was the oldest son of Isaac and Mary Carmack. His father died in January 1863. His mother is still living and in her 84th year.

Brother Carmack was first married to Eliza A. Rhoads in 1840, by whose early death by consumption, he was left a widower with an infant daughter to care for. He was married a second time to Delilah J. Moore who lived but a few years. His third wife was Mrs. Sarah Lowry to whom he was married in 1852, and again in 1865 he was married to Jane E. Haymaker, who by his death is left to feel the weight of anguish which none can fully realize until called to endure it.

Brother Carmack was a man of good constitution, never having any severe illness until his last which was long and painful, but he endured his afflictions without a murmur of complaint. In all the relations of life, as a son caring for his aged mother, as a husband who cherished his companion, as a father caring for his children, as a citizen discharging the varied duties of citizenship, as a Christian caring for the church of his choice, of which he was a faithful member for 44 years. In all these relations he was constant and faithful. He was not a man of many words, but he was a man of many good deeds. By industry, and economy he accumulated a competency of this world's goods, and like a faithful steward, he used them as a measure of good to the community and the church. But goodness and fidelity afford no indemnity against the grasp of the death angel, and our brother is gone.
