Melon Munro Adcock, 84, of Westwood, Calif. died Saturday May 12 in Redding, Calif. from respiratory failure. He was born Sept. 5, 1927 in Alpine, Ark. to William and Ammie Adcock.
He was married to Helen Adcock of Arkadelphia, Ark. July 3, 1948. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army and served as a squad leader for the Headquarters 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry. He worked for Collins Pine Lumber in Chester, Calif. for more than 32 years as a forklift operator. His love of sports was evident with many years of service in the Westwood Little League, as a co-founder of the Westwood Senior Division in 1968 and as a daily watcher of ESPN. As an avid gardener, the greenhouse in the backyard will miss his daily care and green thumb.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel (Tammy) and Steven (Wendy), of Redding, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kindra Adcock, of Chico, Calif., Kevin Adcock, of Shasta Lake, Calif., Megan (Jantz) Kahl, of Redding and Marcus (Amy) Adcock, of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren, Ashton Adcock, Jaylee and Jantz Kahl, Jr., and Lucas and Logan Adcock.
He is also survived by three brothers, Bill, Floyd and Lindell and four sisters, Maurice, Velma, Wanda and Flora.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 plus years, Helen; his parents, William and Ammie; three brothers, Lester, Charles and Leroy; and four sisters, Florene, Flossie, Cleodia and Ruthie Mae.
A private family memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 2 at the Westwood Cemetery with inurnment to follow. A celebration of life will follow from noon to 4 p.m. at the Westwood Seniors Citizens Hall
