Death of John E. R. Bower.
A terrible accident befell Mr. John E.
R. BOWER, brother of Sheriff THOS. J. H.BOWER, and son of DANIEL W . BOWER,
Esq., of Owen township, on Friday last, by which he lost his life. He was returning to Brownstown from Owen township, on the Clear Spring road, in a sulky. When in the vicinity of the Smallwood school house, the horse became frightened, and plunged to one side of the road violently, causing one of the wheels of the vehicle to
strike a stump, and throwing Mr. BOWER
from his seat. His feet became fastened as he fell to one side, and his head rested upon the ground immediately under the wheel. He was thus rendered powerless to help
himself, and in that terrible situation he was dragged about eight hundred yards.— He was first discovered by the hands at ANDY MONTGOMERY'S saw mill, who halted
the horse, and rescued Mr. BOWER from
his horrible position. When found he was insensible, bilt, with prompt medical aid, he partially revived after a few hours. He was brought to Brownstown, where the best medical skill was brought to his aid; but
FATE was against him, and on Saturday
evening, about five o'clock, he breathed his last. JOHN E . R . BOWER was 26 years of age, and was a gentleman of unexceptionable moral character. Of a warm, genial nature, upright in liLs habits and magnanimous in his disposition, to know him was to be his friend. He was a member of the Clear Spring Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, who performed their last sad duty over his grave, in the family burial ground, on Sunday, in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and frienda. May he rest in peace.
