James E. Ade, 64, of English, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, in Norton Pavilion Hosparus Unit, Louisville, Ky., after a yearlong battle with brain cancer.
He was born Dec. 1, 1946, in Lafayette, to the late Bob and Myrtle Ade and was raised on the family farm.
He was a 1965 graduate of Montmorenci High School and received a degree in animal science from Purdue University's College of Agriculture in 1969.
Mr. Ade was a cattle herdsman in Michigan and Wisconsin, then returned to Indiana to farm. In the late 1970s, he and the family moved to English, where he spent 30 years in agriculture and veterinary supply sales. From 2006 until his illness, he was director of Crawford County Cooperative Extension Service.
A 10-year 4-H member, he helped build Crawford County 4-H Park.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Moe Ade; two daughters, Tracie McClain (husband: John) of St. Louis, and Chris Krull (husband: Brian) of Indianapolis; a son, Brian Ade (fiancÚ: Lauren Priest) of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Martha Swank (husband: Ron) and Jane Ade Stevens (husband: Roger); and a brother, John Ade (wife: Karen).
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren.
A visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Crawford County 4-H Fairgrounds, Marengo. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the 3 p.m. service Sunday, May 22, at Mary Frances Memorial Chapel at Ross Camp, 9225 W. 75 S., West Lafayette, IN, 47906, with burial at Asbury Cemetery.
