Paul H. Abernathy, 81, Andersen, died April 24, 2000, at ManorCare Health Services after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 4,1918, in Grant County, and lived in this area since the late 1930s. He retired in 1973 from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors after more than 30 Abemathy years of employment.
He served as a Navy Sea Bee during World War II. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 663, Rolling Wheels Camping Club (Good Sam Club), Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5782, Ander-son Eagles Lodge Aerie 174 and the American Legion in Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Louise (Smith) Abernathy, whom he married Sept. 4, 1941, in Anderson; son, Donald (wife, Joyce) Abernathy of Pendleton; two daughters, Judy (husband, Norman) Reeves of Illinois and Deanna (husband, Kyle) Hardin of Greenwood; three stepchildren, Charles (wife, Marilyn) Snellenbarger of Frankfort, Daniel Snellenbarger. of French Lick and Betty Ann (husband,' Nick) Gray of Anderson; brother, John Abernathy of Florida; two sisters, Betty (husband, Colonel) Hull of Summitville and Ethel Monahan of Elwood; several grandchildren, stepgrandchil-dren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews,
He was preceded in death by daughter, Janet (Abernathy)Gamble; stepdaughter, Kathryn Hiday; grandchildren, Wesley Hardin and Carolyn Sue Abernathy; stepgrandchildren, Debbie Hiday and Kathy Phillips, parents Harley and Ester (Shields) Abernathy, and two brothers, Floyd Abernathy and Kenneth Abernathy.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Robert D> Loose Funeral Homes & Cremetory, South Chapel, with the Rev. Orland Gibbons officating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the South Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
