Elbert Huston "Hugh" Alexander was born in Pickens County, South Carolina. He attended schools in South Carolina and North Carolina. He moved to Wyoming in the 1910s, working at various ranches. He homsteaded on Walker Creek north of Douglas. He lived there until the 1940s when he moved into Douglas.
He was married to Beulah Fisher July 21, 1926 at Douglas, Wyoming. They owned and operated the Douglas Motel and he worked several years for the Wyoming Highway Department. He retired from the Highway Department and sold his motel in 1970.
His wife died in January, 1971 and he has remained a resident of Douglas until the time of his death. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Hugh is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Herman Brown of Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Ann Walker of Strasburg, Colo., and Miss Alo Alexander of Denver, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and one sister.
