Birth: Feb. 16, 1920
Death: Apr. 4, 2007

Written by Powell Tribune Wednesday, April 04, 2007
(Feb. 16, 1920 - April 4, 2007)

A former resident of Powell, Carl E. Allen, died Wednesday, April 4, at his home in Southlake, Texas. He was 87.

Carl was born Feb. 16, 1920 in Powell, the oldest of six children born to Earl and Virgie (Biesemeier) Allen. He was raised in Powell and graduated from Powell High School.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army in World War II, and was in artillery in the Coastal Texas. He graduated Officer Candidates School as a second lieutenant, served in Panama and in the European Theater in France and Germany in the 82nd Engineering Infantry Battalion. He later served in the Korean War as a first lieutenant.

After his military service, Carl's career as a civil engineer took him all over the country to work on Bureau of Reclamation Projects, starting his career with the Boysen reclamation project in Wyoming.

He married Muriel H. Birtwistel on Oct. 27, 1941, and to this union one daughter was born. He was a gifted woodworker and had a passion for genealogy. His greatest enjoyment was his family, and he was their patriarch.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Victor) Corbelli; grandchildren, Mark (Donna L.) Corbelli, and Gregory (Amanda T.) Corbelli; three great-grandchildren; sisters Geneva Peterson of Powell; Lois Purvis of Cody; Leona Link of California; Zona Gale Christensen of Florida; sister-in-law Mona Phay of Powell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the Powell area.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his brother, James, and great-grandson, Carl Allen Corbelli.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 7, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel in Colleyville, Texas. A memorial is planned in Powell in July.
