JOHN S. BENTON DIES AT RANCH
Old-Time Resident of County Succumbs at Age of 74
John Summer Benton, resident of Sheridan County since 1881 and one of northern Wyoming's most prominent old-timers died early Monday morning at his ranch on Jackson Creek southwest of Big Horn, where he had lived for forty-three years. He was ill only a short time.
Mr. Benton was born Nov. 27, 1850, and at the time of his death was 74 years of age. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha C. Haire Benton; two sons, H. Earl Benton of Redmond, Ore., and Leroy A. Benton of Big Horn; one daughter, Mrs. Stella B. Given of Lodge Grass, Mont., and two sisters, Mrs. Willis M. Spear of Sheridan and Mrs. G.M. Johnston of Eagle, Idaho.
The remains are at the Read Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Big Horn church. The Rev. Jas. P. Blackledge, pastor of the Sheridan First Baptist Church of which Mr. Benton was a member, will officiate.
I believe that Daisy Spear was his sister. She is buried in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery in Sheridan, Wyoming.
