The funeral for William B. Braun, of Morris, formerly of Donnelly, will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the funeral will be Father Bob Kieffer. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris from 5 to 7 with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Theresia's Catholic Cemetery, near Donnelly.
William B. Braun, son of Peter and Elizabeth (Holland) Braun was born on August 22, 1922 at Morris. He was baptized at the Assumption Catholic Church at Morris. William began his schooling at St. Mary's Catholic School in Morris, before moving with his family to the Barrett Ranch at Moose Island, where he attended country school #64. In 1936, the family moved to a farm near Donnelly where William attended country school #69, and later graduated from Alberta High School in 1940. In 1942, William enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in San Diego, California. On March 6, 1945, he was sent to Pearl Harbor and was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Ormsby (A.P.A. 49). He was honorably discharged on February 12, 1946, and returned to Minnesota to farm. William was united in marriage to Genevieve Logan on October 8, 1960, at St. Theresia's Catholic Church at Donnelly. The couple lived and farmed west of Donnelly, before moving to Morris.
William was a member of St. Theresia's Catholic Church and later became a member of Assumption Catholic Church. He enjoyed living on the farm and being outdoors. He and Gen loved to go fishing and animals, especially dogs. The couple was always together and had a good life.
William died on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the West Wind Village in Morris. He was 89 years old.
He is survived by two step-daughters, Doloris Hoaas, Maplewood, and Dianne Kellenberger, Hancock; one sister, Irene Rath, Morris; nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. William is also survived by five sisters-in-law, Doloris Braun and Elaine Loehr, both of Morris, Kathy Elgin, Marilyn Loehr, and Janet Loehr, all of Minneapolis; and one brother-in-law, Bill Loehr, Minneapolis, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers, James, Joseph, Donald and twin brother Willard, three sisters, Agnes Kopel, Joan Braun and Margaret Miller, and two step sons, Donald and David Logan
