Patricia LaMae Kroening, daughter of Arthur and Lydia (Schmid) Kroening, was born June 24, 1935 in Springfield, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended and graduated from Springfield Public School. Following her schooling, Pat lived in New Ulm, MN, where she worked for Brown County as Deputy Clerk of Court. On June 15, 1961, she was united in marriage to Richard Hayes Cady in Springfield, MN. The couple moved to Albany, Minnesota, where Pat worked for the Albany Enterprise and the St. Cloud Visitor. Pat and Richard raised their five children: Julie, Michelle, Toni, Kathy and Sean in Albany, MN. In 1994, Pat and Richard moved to a farm site near Donnelly, Minnesota, where they have continued to live since that time.
Pat was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. She was involved in many community projects: She authored, edited and published the parish newsletter for three years at Seven Dolores Church in Albany; she co-organized the Albany Combined Fund, PTA and Albany Music Society. She was a member of the 4-H County Advisory Board for over nine years and was a 4-H leader for 18 years in Stevens County. She volunteered at the Stevens County Historical Museum and worked on obituaries at the library.
Pat was very interested in history and genealogy and did a lot of work on the family history. She was also very actively involved with music. She belonged to the Albany City Band, Morris City Band, Sweet Adeline's, Lakeside Harmony Chorus, Swift County, Tri State and Heartland Community Bands. She was a cast member and co-author of a skit in "Playing with Memories" at the Barrett Theatre. She loved to travel and went to Europe in 1958. She was able to see China in 1998 with the St. Cloud Municipal Band and did missionary work in Peru in 2004 through Assumption Church.
Pat enjoyed travel, music, meeting people, camping, genealogy, attending concerts with Sean, crafts and sewing. She always put others first and was greatly loved by all those with whom she made acquaintance. Her favorite thing to do was to attend International Music Camp at the International Peace Gardens in North Dakota. She met many friends there and was immersed in music (playing flute and singing) for a whole week each year. She also loved her family very dearly and loved to spend time with them, especially her grandchildren. She attended every event they had up until her passing.
