On April 12 ,1930, in Colfax, Louisiana, God placed an angel named Asrean Marie in the care of the late Allen and Asrean Johnson. This angel rounded out the Johnson brood as the twelfth child. The Johnsons were firmly rooted in faith and loyalty to family; which was evident in the way Asrean Marie lived her life.

With the guidance and support of her siblings, Asrean graduated from Mary E. Graham High School and attended Grambling State University. In 1951 , Asrean moved to Oakland, California to join her older sister, Lucinda Shaw, and help care for her four nephews who became more like sons.

Asrean accepted Christ at an early age and remained active in church. She found joy in sharing her gifts of song and prayer with church congregations, family and friends. Asrean's trademark song was 'Trouble in My Way", and she always had an encouraging word of faith. Asrean's love for God and dedication to ministry was demonstrated in her instrumental work in the establishment of Praise Temple Church. She served in ministry there until she joined First Truth Missionary Baptist Church; where she served as Mother of the Church under the leadership of Pastor Glenn and First Lady Nicole Pace, until she transitioned from this life.

On November 1 ,1957, Asrean married the love of her life, Edward C. Agee, Sr.. Asrean was lovingly given the nickname "Nanny" which was affectionately used by all who were blessed to know her. Edward and Asrean endured the sunshine and storms of life with tenacity, dedication and unconditional love until Edward passed away on March 4, 1999. Asrean and Edward's 60 years of life together was blessed with a blended family of 11 children, 20+ grandchildren, 40+ great-grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren.

On September 22, 2015 , after 85 years of God's grace on earth, Asrean's family surrounded her as she closed her eyes peacefully for a final rest. She will be greeted in Heaven by her parents; husband; ten of her siblings; daughter Patricia Griffin; two sons - Michael Malone and Edward Agee, Jr.; grandson Chorion Anthony Ray Malone; great grandson Dy'San Holmes; sister-friends Lela Randall and Evelyn "Mama" Jacobs; and a host of family and friends.

Asrean's legacy of love, faith, determination and strength will be honored on this earth by her sister, Cleotha "Cleo" Hollins of Hammond, Louisiana; her children: Alton "Ray" Malone (Ann), Myrna McCauley (Glen), Lloyd Agee (Cheryl), Joseph Harding, Veneiva Agee, Geneiva Agee, Gerald Agee (Alishia), Nancy Agee; Son-In-Law Marcus Griffin; and God daughters Vonzell "Von" Pugh (Walter) and Dorothy "Dot" Wright. She will be cherished in memory by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister-friends of over 47 years: Ada Jones and Sue Jones; as well as an abundance of family and friends.

Nanny's dreams of being a nurse and hair stylist were fulfilled through her steadfast care of loved ones. Many may argue that her true passion was cooking and baking: she prepared homemade meals daily and her 7-Up pound cakes were always in high demand. More importantly, Asrean Marie Agee, a.k.a. Nanny, lived by example and proved that life is full of spice; favor ain't fair; and nothing is greater than God's love and care.
