Funeral services will be on Monday, February 25th at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (852 Stearns Ave. West) in Eden Valley for Lew W. Ahrens, age 71, of Paynesville, who died on Thursday at his home. Rev. Bryan Hopfensperger will officiate. Burial will be in the Paynesville Cemetery.
Lew was born February 28th, 1941 in Windom, MN to Raymond and Myrtle (Roesner) Ahrens. His family moved to Paynesville in 1955 and he graduated from Paynesville High School in 1959. Lew served in the US Army from 1961-1967. He married Donna Lee Hemmesch on September 19th, 1964 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. Lew and his wife took over the Ahrens family farm in 1964 where he was a dairy and crop farmer. Lew was a member of the Paynesville American Legion Post 271 and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eden Valley.

Lew enjoyed farming until his retirement in 2003. He loved watching High School Sports, in particular his son and daughter, nieces and nephews. He was a volunteer driver at the Rose Center and Meals on Wheels and was a devoted caregiver for his mother whom he spent every Wednesday with. Lew loved watching amateur baseball and went traveling around the state of Minnesota and went on many bus tours. He loved to fish and had a great sense of humor. People will remember his laugh.

Survivors include his wife Donna of 48 years, two children, Thomas Ahrens, Paynesville and Terese Ahrens (Brian Mattson) Minneapolis, grandson Nicholas, his mother Myrtle, Paynesville, brother, Roger Ahrens, Paynesville, sisters, Jerrine Posey (Jim) Paynesville, Sheryl Schmiginsky, Paynesville, Rhonda Wendlandt, Paynesville and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond, April 8th, 1964 and brother-in-law, Robert Wendlandt, December 3rd, 2012.
