James Henderson Aird, 83, formerly of W. 5th St., died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2003, in the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay.

He was born on July 4, 1919, in Morgan Park, to James and Peggy Henderson Aird, and was a graduate of Morgan Park High School. He was also a graduate of the Dunwoody Institute and UMD. Jim served as a Sgt. in the Army Air Forces during W.W.II. He married Del-ores Johnson in Duluth, on Au-gust 7, 1948. Jim had been Director of Pensions and Insurance at the U.S. Steel Plant, Duluth Works, for 30 years, and later worked as a Clerk of Court for St. Louis County for nine and a half years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge #1478, and the West Duluth American Legion Post 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant daughter Barbara Jo.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Delores; daughter Peggy Hiestand; son James (Teresa); sisters Flora Harris, Mae Evelyn (Eldon) Christopher; grandchildren Jennifer (Troy) McDonald, Natalie, Valerie, and James Aird, Robyn, and Ryan Hiestand; great-grandson Tyler James McDonald; step-mother Mary Aird; several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.
