SIBLEY S. "LEE" ABBOTT
February 20, 1942 ~ September 14, 2013

Sibley Abbott died of cancer at The Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, Washington. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Theodore "Ted" and Jane Abbott. She was the great-great-granddaughter of the first governor of Minnesota, Henry Hastings Sibley. She lived most of her early life in St. Paul, Minnesota and then eventually moved to Vancouver, Washington to be near her beloved Godmother, Virginia Demme, and her family.

Sibley was employed by Bemis Company in Vancouver, Washington and retired after 22 years of service.

She loved the west coast and thoroughly enjoyed antiquing in Rockaway Beach, taking wonderful vacations in Mexico at her Godmother's home and sharing many lunches with her dear friends as often as possible. A highlight of her summers were the many gatherings in the Demme Family Garden. Those times were special.

Sibley was preceded in death by her father, Ted; her mother, Jane; her brother, William "Bill" Abbott; her aunt Nera; her uncle Sibley; and her grandfather.

She is survived by her nephew, George Abbott of New York; her niece, Amanda Abbott of California; as well as her Goddaughter, Heather Arrieta of Vancouver, Washington.

Special thanks go to Jock and Susan Demme for all of their love and support on this journey. Thanks also to her longtime, faithful friend, Marilyn Howes, for her years of friendship, comfort and loyalty. To other special friends, Dee Salmon, Sheri Kosher, Lore Demme "The Bemis Girls", and many helpful neighbors for their constant support.

Sibley was interred in the family plot at The Oakland Historical Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Finally, she enjoyed the constant loyal attention of her two little sweet dogs, Chloe and Sophie. Their love brought her great joy through healthy and trying times. For that reason, Sibley requested that any donations made in her name be sent specifically to the Southwest Washington Humane Society in Vancouver, Washington.

A memorial service was held Monday, September 30, 2013 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington.
