Wanaka T. Abel, 85, died December 24, 2009 in Walnut Creek. She resided at 1845 Silverwood Drive in Concord, California at the time of her death.

She was born in Missoula, MT to William and Olive (Courser) Tierney. Wanaka grew up in rural Montana, moved to the Bay Area during World War II, where she later met her future husband, Eugene. Together they made a home in Concord, in which she lived for the next fifty-six years.

She was a loving and generous daughter, wife, sister, and mother. She brought love, happiness, and comfort to her family. She maintained a beautiful yard with plants and flowers, was an avid reader, a master at scrabble, and enjoyed painting, drawing, attending plays, playing cards (which she consistently won), and watching sports with her sons.

She is survived by her sons, Steve Abel (Carol), Greg Abel, and David Abel; sisters, Marvel Albin and Merle Silva; and grandchildren Zac and Janet.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Ouimet Brothers Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord, CA, and a Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 also at Ouimet Brothers Chapel.
Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette, CA.
