Martha Achterhoff
January 17, 1909 - May 18, 1996

Funeral services for Martha Achterhoff, 87, of Edgerton were held Tuesday, May 21, 11:00 a.m. at the American Reformed Church in Luvrne with Rev. Everett Hind officiating. Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.

Music was provided by organist Glenda Jacobsma, the grandchildren singing 'Under His Wings' and violin solo by Kriscel Olson of 'In The Sweet By and By. The congregation sang 'How Great Thou Art.'

Pallbearers were grandchildren Glenn Brouwer, Ryan Achterhoff, Kyle Achterhoff, Ed Mientkewicz, Tami Matson and Mindi Matson.

The remining grandchildren were honorary pallbearers.

Martha Achterhoff was born January 17, 1909, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to theunis and Gertje (Koning) Elzenga. At the age of 6 years, Martha moved with her family to the United States, settling near Ellsworth where she was raised and recived her education.

On February 12, 1930, she married Henry Achterhoff in Edgerton. Following their marriage, they farmed in Pipestone and Rock Counties for many years. In 1965, they moved to Luverne where Martha worked for several years as nursery attendant at the Luverne hospital.

On July 2, 1992, Martha entered the Edgebrook Rest Center in Edgerton, where she died on Saturday, May 18, 1996 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and one day.

Martha was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne. She enjoyed reading and doing needlework.

She is remembered by four children: Jim and his wife Gale Acherhoff of Edgerton; Greta and her husband Jasper Brouwer of Browerville; Joyce and her husband Mike Hagemann of Glen Carbon, Illinois; Eileen and her husband Bob Matson of Glencoe; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Marth as preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, a great-granddaughter and two brothers.
