Chanarambie Farmer Dies on April 27th
Funeral of Chas. Grogan Held From Chandler Church On Thursday Afternoon.
Charles Grogan, Sr., passed away Monday morning, April 27th, at his home in Chanarambie Township, after suffering for about a month with kidney trouble and other complications. He had previously been ailing with rheumatism, but up to this spring had been seemingly improved. Mr. Grogan was highly respected in the Chandler community, deeply loved by his family and a good neighbor. The deceased recently accepted the Lutheran faith. Rev. A.M. Nelson administered baptism. Charles Grogan was born December 8th, 1866, in Lee County, Dixon, Ill., and passed away April 27th, 1936. In March, 1885, he moved with his mother and brothers to Valley Springs, S.D. In 1890 they moved to Rock County, Minn., where they lived near Luverne until 1895, when they moved to near Edgerton. In 1901 Mr. Grogan was married to Miss Minnie Zimmerman and they went to housekeeping on the farm place where they now live in Chanarambie Township. With the exception of two years, 1924 and 1925, when they moved to a farm near Holland, Minn., and from there they returned to the former place in 1926 where they have since made their home. To this union seven children were born namely, Clarence, Edna, Mrs. Wm Smith, of Rushmore; Emmett "Nie" Wilson, Charles Jr., Allen and Fern, all of whom are living. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his passing one grandchild and tow brothers, James Grogan, who lives in Oregon, and Pat Grogan, who lives in North Dakota and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 30th in the Reformed church at Chandler. Rev. H.S. Muilenberg conducted the service. Mrs. Lee Radcliffe and Miss Sybil Powell with Miss Myrtle Pederson as accompanist sang "when they Ring the Golden Bells" and "No Night There." The pallbearers were Messrs. Ed Kilen, John Lang, Alvin Omberson, Ralph Warren, Mr. Bondhus and Oscar Gunderson. The remains were laid to rest in the Lake Wilson Cemetery.
