A funeral service for Muriel Skrove was held at Bethany Lutheran Church near Bergen, Minn., Thursday morning, Dec. 27, 2007, with Pastor Steven Norby officiating. Interment was at Hauges Cemetery, Belmont Township, Jackson County, Minn. Muriel passed away at Jackson Good Samaritan Center on Dec. 21, 2007.
Grandsons as casket bearers were Jeff Skrove, Wayne Skrove, Clayton Skrove, Jr., Glenn Skrove, Tracy Skrove and Stewart Skrove. Ushers were Richard Kulseth and Gary Natterstad. Carol Sandve was organist and Donna Bennett and Gary Natterstad were soloists. Osterberg Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.
Muriel Irene Skrove was born on Oct. 6, 1909, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Robinson) McClain. In 1916, they moved to Jackson County, Minn., where she attended both country and city school in Jackson. On Nov. 9, 1927, in Jackson, she was united in marriage to Sigurd J. Skrove, Sr. After marriage, they made their home in Enterprise Township, Jackson County. Sigurd passed away on Jan. 21, 1992. After his passing, she continued to make her home on the farm. On Dec. 4, 2007, she became a resident of the Jackson Good Samaritan Center.
Muriel was a member of Hauges Lutheran Church until it dissolved and then became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies' Aid, circles and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed raising chickens and had quite a collection of chicken figurines. She enjoyed embroidery and crocheting. She also made dolls and gave them to people all over the world, including Spain and South America. She was very proud of her Irish heritage, even in the Norwegian community.
Muriel is survived by three sons and their wives, Sigurd (VerJean) Skrove, Jr. of rural Jackson, Clayton (Beverly) Skrove of Cedar, and Duane (Sharon) Skrove of Princeton; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Karen Skrove; a grandson, Steven Skrove; and two brothers, Lyle McClain and Westley McClain.
