Nels Anderson, who passed away at his home in this city last week Wednesday afternoon, was born at Lungby, Kristianastaddan, Norway on September 11, 1855. He was 83 years, eight months and seven days old at death. He had been in failing health during the last year and suffered a stroke Thursday, May 11th, which hastened his demise. Landing on the shores of America in 1882, Mr. Anderson came to Benson where he engaged in farming, his lifetime occupation. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Anna Monson, and this union was blessed with seven children, all of whom survive. Mrs. Anderson passed away in 1901 at Benson. Mr. Anderson moved his family to this community in 1902 and engaged in farming, until 1918 when he retired and moved into Sauk Centre, where he resided until death came to him. In 1904 he was married to Miss Theresia Anderson, of Chicago, Ill, who with the seven childrfen, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are left to mourn. The children are: Alfred, Gust, Henry and Godfred, of Sauk Centre; Miss Sigred Anderson, at home; Mrs. I. W. Davies, of St. Paul, and Mrs. Lyle Barringer, of Clotho. Two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Serley, of Sauk Centre, and Mrs. Frederick Hanson, of Montevideo, also survive. Funeral services were held from the home at 425 Maple St. at one o'clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. C.P. Thronson, pastor of the Norwegian Lutheran Church, conducted the service, which was largely attended by old friends and neighbors. Mrs. George Berggreen sang two solos, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere: and "Stora Hvita Flock" (The Great White Throne). A.O. Undem, of Little Sauk, sang "There Is No Night There." Pallbearers were the sons, Alfred, Godfred, Henry and Gus, and two sons-in-law, Lyle Baringer and Ives Davies. All of the children and grandchildren were present at the funeral. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery. For the past year Mr. Anderson has been in failing health and he patiently awaited the Master's Call. He was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church. Out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the services were; Mr. and Mrs. I.W. Davies and family of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Barrigner and family, of Clotho; Mrs. Mathilda Nelson and son and two daughters, Swan Ecklund and son and daughter, Mrs. W. G. Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tengvall and family, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Tengvall, Mrs. Henry Lagred, Emil and Frederick Hanson and Conrad Manson, all of Benson; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Dav Nelson and Mrs. Frederick Hanson, Of Montevideo.
