Accident in "The Pioneer" Nov. 4, 1943, page 5. reads as follows:
"Lawrence Barsness was seriously injured last Saturday night in a fall from the coal tower near the Great Northern tracks. Mr. Barsness was rushed to the Bemidji hospital where it was discovered, after X-rays were taken, that he had a fractured back, pelvis and arm. He passed away Wednesday afternoon."

Obit in "The Pioneer" Nov 6, 1943, page 2. reads as follows:
"Lawrence Barsness of Cass Lake, an employee of the Great Northern railway at the coal shed, passed away at the Bemidji Lutheran hospital on Wednesday from injuries he received in a fall while at work Saturday night Oct. 30. Mr. Barsness was employed at the coal shed and fell a distance of 27 feet while coaling an engine. The accident happened around 9 p.m.
Lawrence J. Barsness was born at Evansville, Minn., on Nov. 6, 1909. He is survived by his wife and five children, six brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Nov. 6 at 2 o'clock from the Trinity Lutheran church of Cass Lake with the Rev. O. A. Anderson officiating. Burial was made in a cemetery in Hart Lake township."
