Norma A. Austvold was born on January 16, 1915 in Sedan, MN. Her parents were Jacob and Mathilde (Jermstad) Hafstad. She grew up on a farm and attended District #24 grade school near her home and high school in Glenwood, where she graduated. Norma was united in marriage to Boyd Austvold on July 24, 1936. They made their home in Glenwood. Boyd passed away September 12, 1977. Norma later moved into an apartment in the Villa in Glenwood, and for the past 5 years has been a resident at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Norma was employed by the Minnewaska public school, working mostly at E.N. Norgaard School. She enjoyed her work at the school. She was also an active member of Glenwood Lutheran Church.
Norma loved to play cards, particularly whist, and she liked to win. Due to the fact that her daughters lived in different parts of the United States, she was able to do a lot of traveling, including going to Alaska six times.
Everyone was always welcome to stop in for coffee at Norma's house. She loved to bake so she always had three or four different kinds of bars or cookies ready to go with a good cup of coffee. She was always happy to see you and had a wonderful smile to give you.
Norma was always so proud of her family. She thought her sons-in-law were just the best. She loved her grandchildren and would be so excited to see her great-grandchildren.
Norma is survived by her daughters, Janice (Eldred) Visser of Fountain Hills, AZ, Connie (Keith) Wendt of Hancock, MN, Becky (Peter) Feigum of Kennewick, WA; a niece, Orlean (Ken) Dougherty, who was like a daughter; 5 grandchildren, Karen (Paul) Stevens of Mishawaka, IN, Paul Visser of Fountain Hills, AZ, Aaron (Jen) Feigum of Hermiston, OR, Liz (Jon) Leino of Minneapolis, MN, and Jenny (Dan) Roark of Minneapolis, MN; as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd; four brothers, Phillip, Melvin, Oliver and Arnold Hafstad; and one sister, Judith Erdahl.
