Ralph was born and died in San Francisco, CA. He is the son of Center George Alexander (1880-1957) and Louise Marie(Sherman) Alexander (1884-1982). The 1920 U.S. Federal census shows the family living at 85 Dehon Street in San Francisco, CA. The family was renting their home. Ralph's father was a carpet layer. By the time of the 1930 census, the family was renting their home at 4349 Eighteenth Street. His father still was a carpet layer, but owned his own shop. Children identified in the census were Ralph, Cecile, and Dorothy. Ralph worked for a messenger service.

Ralph married Mary Aleck Karetoff on 27 Jan 1935 possibly in San Francisco, CA

From the San Francisco Chronicle, Tuesday, January 25, 2000, page A19:
"ALEXANDER - Ralph J. - Passed away peacefully at his home in San Francisco on January 23, 2000. Dearly beloved husband of Mary; brother of Cecile Alexander and Dorothy Alexander; dear uncle of Joan King and her family and other nieces and nephews. Age 90 years. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at Valente, Marini, Perata & Co., 4840 Mission St., S.F. Interment to follow at Olivet Memorial Park, Colma. Memorials may be made in Ralph's name to the American Cancer Society."
