Vera was born April 17, 1919, in Calipatria, California, to Carlos and Gavina Garcia. She came as a child with her family to the Central Valley.
She married Lupe C. Alfaro after the war on February 4, 1946, in Reno, Nevada. She then worked as a packer for LoBue Brothers packing for some 35 years.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, going to the casino, playing old fashioned solitaire and being with her family. She is the last surviving member of her nine siblings.
Vera is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lupe Alfaro of Lindsay; two daughters and their spouses, Helen Renteria and Trinidad of Woodlake, and Mary Ann Bolanos and Armando of Lindsay; her son and his spouse, Lupe Alfaro and Reeni of Lindsay; eight grandchildren, Lisa Salinas, Tony Alfaro, Nicole Bolanos, Angela Bolanos, Pablo Bolanos, Raquel Rivas, Yvette Renteria and Amanda Renteria; as well as eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Holy Rosary will be prayed on Thursday, March 18, at 6 P.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday, March 19, at 10 A.M. also at the church for Elvira G. Alfaro, 90, of Lindsay, who passed away March 14. The Reverend Kenneth Bozzo will officiate and interment will follow the Mass at Lindsay Strathmore Public Cemetery.
