Mrs. Lundberg was born June 23, 1924 in Duluth, Minn., to Annar and Elvira Oustad. She married Donald E. Lundberg on April 21, 1945. They were married 60 years when he preceded her in death in 2004.
Brother Maynard Oustad, sister Margit Oustad Mehrman and husband, Donald, preceded her in death.
Surviving her are children Lucionne Holmberg of Laurel, Md., Peter Lundberg of Oakland, Kristin Lundberg of Sacramento, Tamara Lundberg of Carbondale, Colo.; grandchildren Ryan Holmberg, Betsy Lundberg Lambert, Madeline and Clayton Westbrook; sister Agnes Berglund of Duluth, Minn.; and sister-in-law Lorraine Erickson of Aitkin, Minn.
Katherine began her 40-year elementary teaching career at the age of 19 at Kimberly School, Minn. She retired from Pioneer Elementary in Quincy in 1982. She received her BA in elementary education and her MA in history from U.C. Riverside. She was a member of the Aitkin, Minn., American Legion Auxiliary and was Worthy Matron for the Plumas Chapter Order of Eastern Star, in Quincy.
Katherine and Don were volunteer campground hosts for the Bighorn National Forest at Prune Creek and Sibley Lake campgrounds from 1984-1996. She was an avid knitter and made her own Norwegian patterns for knitting and knit many hats for preemie infants and cancer patients and sent these all over the United States. She traveled extensively after retirement with Donny and established their summer home in Sheridan, Wyo., in 1994.
