Ole W. Berg, 76, Tamarack, died Feb. 20, 2009, at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin.

Ole was born Oct. 23, 1932, at Sentinel Butte, N.D., the son of Martin and Anna (Scherle) Berg. He moved with his family in 1938 to the Isle area and they lived for short times at Malmo, Wealthwood and Cedar Lake near Aitkin and then moved to Tamarack. He attended schools in Tamarack and also McGregor. When his father had a heart attack, Ole quit school and helped run the family farm. He started working for Potlatch in Cloquet and eventually became a millwright and worked 44 years, retiring in 1998. During that time he and his wife also operated a farm on which they raised beef cattle and had a dairy herd. He married Carol J. Thomas on Aug. 7, 1954, at Tamarack. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McGregor; the Boilermakers union, the quarter century club at Potlatch. He enjoyed music, hunting fishing, snow skiing and water skiing. He was a very inventive person and could make just about anything he set his mind to.

He is survived by his wife Carol Berg, Tamarack; mother, Anna Berg, McGregor; children and their spouses, Steven and Tammy Berg, Royalton; Heather and Brian O'Leary, Litchfield; and Kathryn and John Antus, Cloquet; brothers, Darrell (Daisy) Berg, McGregor; Martin (Linda) Berg, McGregor; H.
