MRS. OLE A. BAKEN

Owing to some oversight, the Herald was not furnished with an obituary of the late Mrs. Ole Baken until this week.

Mrs. Lena P. Baken, passed away very suddenly on Christmas morning, Dec. 25th, 1947, at her home in Minneapolis, at the age of 76 years and 15 days.

She was born Dec. 10th, 1871 in Dodge county, her parents being Peder J. and Marit Hagen. She was baptized in the East St. Olaf church in Rock Dell, as an infant, and was confirmed in the Hayfield Lutheran church. On Sept. 7th, 1892 she was married to Ole A. Baken, and they continued to make their home in this community.

Mr. and Mrs. Baken were active members of the Cedar Creek Lutheran church and later of Trinity Lutheran church, until the death of Mr. Baken, on March 13,1929.

Mrs. Baken then went to live at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. C. Jahnke (Olive), remaining there some years. In 1936, she moved to Minneapolis, where she made her home until her death. While living in Minneapolis, Mrs. Baken joined the Bethany Lutheran congregation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and two brothers.

Surviving her are: One son, Dr. Melvin P. Baken, of Minneapolis; two daughters, who are: Mrs. Gilbert Oppen (Althea) of Minneapolis; and Mrs. Hilding C. Jahnke, Brainerd. There are seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Services were conducted on Dec. 29th, at Bethany Lutheran church in Minneapolis, at 9:30 A.M. by the Rev. M. E. Hauge. At this service, Dr. Egge sang, "Den Stove Hvide Flok", and "The Lord's Prayer".

Services were conducted at Trinity Lutheran church in Hayfield by the Rev. Earl R. Weeks, at 2:30 in the afternoon. The Ladies Chorus sang, "Still, Still With Thee" and "Beautiful Savior." Rev. Oppen son-in-law of Mrs. Baken, spoke on behalf of the family.

Mrs. Baken was laid to rest beside her husband in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were, Richard and James Hemingway, Clinton and Coler Peterson, Cleo Mogen and Rodger Lewis.

Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral included: Dr. and Mrs. Melvin P. Baken, Rev. and Mrs. Gilbert Oppen, Richard Baken, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin G. Oppen, Mrs. Paul H. Field, Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Wahl, Rev. and Mrs. M.E. Hauge, Mrs. Gina Jurgens, Miss Joan Jurgens, all of Minneapolis.

Mr. and Mrs. Hilding C. Jahnke, Arlys and Carol Jahnke, of Brainerd; Mr. and Mrs. Philip Oppen, of Spicer; Mrs. Martin Flom, of Zumbrota; Mr. and Mrs. George Hagen of Rochester.

Mrs. Elizabeth Hagen, Mrs. Ben Flood, Mrs. Lloyd LaBelle and Mrs. Donald Lester, all of St. Paul.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Orpen and Marilyn, all of Austin.
