ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Robert T. Ackerman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, Minn., with Mrs. Jan Ackerman officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Ackerman, 88, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Rochester and Willmar, died Wednesday (July 25, 2007) at the Minnesota Masonic Home Care Center in Bloomington.
Born February 1, 1919, in Willmar, he was a 1937 graduate of Willmar High School. While growing up in Willmar, he worked in the family meat business. Following high school, he attended South Dakota State University in Brookings. He served stateside in the Navy during World War II. In 1940, he married Marvis Hogan in Willmar. In 1948, he was appointed to the Minnesota State Patrol, and throughout his career served postings in western Minnesota, Cokato, Mankato and Rochester. In 1949, he married Norma Christopher. He retired from the State Patrol in 1978 as captain of the 2100 District with 30 years of service. He was a longtime resident of the Rochester area until moving to Cokato in 2001 and later to the Twin Cities area to be closer to family.
Survivors include four sons, Larry (Kathy) of Litchfield, Minn., James (Jan) of New London, Minn., Rick (Joyce) of Bemidji, Minn., and Christopher of Chanhassen, Minn.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Shirley) of Ely, Minn.; a sister, Margret Miller of Cottonwood, Ariz; and former wife, Marvis Shiro of Willmar. He was preceded in death by his second wife and a brother.
Friends may call an hour before the service at the funeral home.
