Funeral services for Ruth McKindley, 87, of Clarissa, were held on Saturday, March 3 at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa with Pastor Melissa Ehrhardt officiating. Ruth passed away on February 27, 2012, at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa.
Ruth Barbara Pesta was born on July 26, 1924, in Clarissa to Frank and Ragnhild (Granlund) Pesta. She was raised on the family farm in Iona Township. She attended Pleasant Valley School #25 and attended high school in Long Prairie. After her graduation she attended school at Glenwood for training to work at a defense plant in Seattle, Washington.
After the war was over she came home and worked in Long Prairie. It was during this time she met Ellis McKindley. They were married September, 1946. Ellis had been a prisoner of war for three and a half years, which was a very hard time for him and all prisoners. She was very active in American Ex Prisoners of War Chapter, American Legion Auxiliary and also was a member of the Clotho Circle, Freeman Creek Homemakers and Church Circle.
She entered the Central Todd County Care Center in late 2008, and was very active in activities at the care center. From her room she could see her church, and enjoyed watching the activities going on there. The care center and the staff were very "special" to her. She was always so "thankful" for the wonderful care she had.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ragnhild Pesta; husband Ellis McKindley, March 30, 1994; brothers, Clarence, Hanley, Raymond and Richard.
She is survived by her sister Gloria (Duane) Drevlow of Truman; brother Glenn (Neva) Pesta of Long Prairie, Kenneth (Jeannette) Pesta of Clarissa, Ivan (Shirley) Pesta of Clarissa, Frank Jr. (Betty) Pesta of Eagle Bend; sisters-in-law, Beatrice of Truman, Connie of Long Prairie, Lea of Brooklyn Center; and many nephews and nieces.
Ruth was a great sister and friend. She will be missed and remembered as a very special lady.
Casket bearers were her nephews: Richard, Bryan, Kevin, Glenn Jr., Daryl, Hanley Jr. and Lynn Pesta and Donald Drevlow,
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery, Clarissa.
