Hjalmer Lofgren, 97, Littlefork
Hjalmer Andrew Lofgren, 97, of the Littlefork Medical Center, formerly
of Big Falls and Littlefork, Minn., died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the
Falls Memorial Hospital of International Falls.
He was born Dec. 16, 1911, of Swedish immigrants in Lindford Township,
Koochiching County, Minnesota, the son of Ole and Kristina (Johansson)
Lofgren. He attended country school District #1 through the eighth grade.
On Nov. 14, 1942, he married Dagmar Nelson of Big Falls. The couple were
the parents of two children, Margaret and Roger. Hjalmer was primarily self
employed as a logging contractor and saw mill operator.
On June 13, 1981, he married Ida Barstad of Littlefork. The couple
resided in Big Falls.
He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Big Falls and
enjoyed singing in the choir.
His hobbies included making over 700 handmade knives from planer blades,
woodworking, fishing, hunting, crossword puzzles and traveling to various
places including Sweden and Arizona.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wives, Dagmar and Ida; and his
three brothers: Walter, Alfred and August.
His family includes his two children, Margaret (Robert) Norman of Sebeka
and Roger (Denise) of Rochester; four grandchildren: Jane (Louis)
Hermansen, James (Patty Abrahamson) of Lesuer, Kristopher (Rebecca) Lofgren
and Garrett Lofgren; five great grandchildren: Brittney, Matthew and Tyler
Norman, Louis and Christian Hermansen; five stepchildren: Donald (JoAnn) of
Arora, Vernon (Patsy) of Duluth, Marion of Brainerd, Keith (Patty) of Little
Fork, Patricia (Mike) of Brainerd; step grandchildren and step
great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host
Visitation: One hour prior to services at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at the Evangelical Covenant Church of
Clergy: The Rev. Tom Winkelman
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery of Big Falls.
